Shoe shopping

May 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Family, Shopping, Travel

Oh what a day. I’ve never liked shoe shopping, not even for myself and I simply can’t understand why so many women (in particular) do. Anyway, where am I going with this?

Well it quickly became very apparent today that DDWT Junior is certainly following in his dad’s footsteps (no pun intended) with his immense dislike for shoe shopping as well! Trouble was, it was for him we were doing the shopping.

To make matters worse, we needed shoes and trainers for him - so we were going to have our work cut out. I won’t bore you with the details of a marathon 4 hour shoe shopping session - where tempers flared on several occasions, but we got there in the end.

My pockets are nigh on £55 lighter (for size 11 children’s shoes!) but at least we got the job done and the little fella is happy with his new “shoosies”.

I’ll also give a mention to the Landore park and ride service, which we used for the first time today. For £1.50 (per car) it’s great value and we were very impressed by the service and shall be sure to use it again - rather than get gridlocked in Swansea and then pay through the nose for parking.

It was also nice to have a rest day from the training as well. Having done 4 runs this week, I was in need of a rest as I felt leg weary to say the least. I still missed not doing any training though!

4/5ths engaged

That’s what the midwife said to Mrs DDWT when she went for her routine appointment today.

From what I understand it basically means that baby’s head is ‘getting into position’ in readiness for birth and is 4/5ths of the way there.  This figure is there or thereabouts to what it should be at this stage apparently.

I know one thing though, Mrs DDWT is getting increasingly uncomfortable with the size and sheer weight of the ‘bump’ at the moment.

As for me, well I went for a run again with coach this lunchtime.  We went down to Sketty Lane this time with my time being 30 minutes 45 seconds.

In fairness to coach she is quite some distance ahead of me in terms of training at the moment, so she did a 10 minute extension to her route.

Guided tour

It’s not often you go on a guided tour, but when it’s a hospital it’s almost never - except when a baby is due of course!

With d-day (d for delivery in this case) fast approaching on June 10th, we decided we’d best tag along to Singleton hospital in Swansea for a guided tour of the maternity ward and delivery suite. It’s always handy to know where to go when push (literally) comes to shove isn’t it :-)

The place was packed full of prospecitve Mams and doting Dads to be - the 1st timers sticking out like sore thumbs with their over enthusastic interest in EVERYTHING and occasional ooow’s and aaaahh’s. Not that we weren’t interested of course, but when you’ve seen it once before it’s hard to forget what it was like.

Sweltering heat

I went for a run in the sweltering heat this lunchtime and am I glad I decided to wear a running vest for a change!

The 20 minutes 18 seconds route over the dunes and along the jetty was tough going mainly because of the sheer heat.  I’m amazed I didn’t actually burn in the midday sun - which normally happens - but thankfully I managed to escape the ‘lobster effect’ this time.

I’m also glad to report that DDWT Junior much better again :-)
